About this Course:

The WSET Level 2 Award in Wines is the perfect wine course for beginners wishing to learn about a wide range of grapes and styles, as well as those seeking to build on the introductory knowledge gained with the WSET Level 1 Award in Wines. You’ll gain enviable knowledge of the principal and regionally important grape varieties of the world, the regions in which they are grown, and the styles of wine they produce.

Who Is This Course For?

WSET Level 2 Award in Wines is a beginner-to-intermediate-level qualification for anyone with a serious interest in wine. 

This qualification is great for tasting room staff, restaurant servers and bartenders, retail wine salespeople, wine marketing professionals, and consumers looking to learn more about international wine. 

WSET Level 1 Award in Wines is not required. If you are unsure where to begin your education, please contact us.

You have one week to study each module and a WSET Wine Educator will provide support through review assignments, chats, and feedback. Regular access and participation in the course online activities is essential for this mode of study.

Each module includes a series of independent activities to help students understand wine label terminology and recognise the styles produced by the main grape varieties in key wine regions.

Students should be advised to taste a range of wines during their studies. A list of recommended tasting samples can be found in the specification. Students can post their tasting notes in the Online Classroom for review by the educator. Due to legal limitations in shipping wine samples, individual wines are not included with the online course.

  • Learn how the environmental and winemaking factors influence the principal and regionally important white grape varieties, how they influence the style and quality of the wines produced.

  • Learn the meaning of labelling terms indicating style and quality.

  • Learn about the key grape varieties used to produce the principal styles of sparkling and fortified wines.

  • Learn the key wine making processes used to make sparkling and fortified wines.

  • Learn the meaning of labelling terms indicating style and quality.

• There is a mock multiple choice test to complete.

Examination

The Level 2 Award in Wines examination consists of 50 multiple-choice questions to be completed in 60 minutes. The examination is taken online via a secure remote server on a scheduled day and time in a private environment of your choice using a desktop or laptop computer and your cell phone. 

Please review the Physical and Technical Requirements for the online examination before signing up.

Pass Marks:

  • Pass: 55% – 69%
  • Pass with Merit: 70% – 84%
  • Pass with Distinction: 85% and above

Students who pass the examination will receive a WSET certificate and label pin. 

For any reason that you may need to resit the examination, prices are $150 for in-person or remote examination.

Registration Requirments

There are no entry requirements for this qualification. You must be of legal drinking age in the country where you are attending the course to participate in any alcohol tasting. However, this is not a barrier to successfully completing the Level 2 qualification.
